SHIMWATA is a social and member-based, community-based organisation with the aim of pooling their strengths to build capacity for mutual support in addressing the social and economic needs of organization members and the surrounding community. This organization was established by eight people in 1990.
To be a leading cultural institution contributing to the community of Tanga and Tanzania as a whole.
To serve as a platform where organization members engage in activities aimed at uplifting their lives.
The organization is led by nine management personnel, as provided for in its constitution: Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Cashier, and three other members without specific portfolios. These three non-portfolio members act as a link between the organization members and the leadership. Elections for these positions are held at the General Meeting every three years. In addition to these elected leaders, the organization includes representatives from the various geographical areas of Tanga City who, along with those elected, form the Executive Committee.
